Whatcom County is a county in the US state of Washington in the United States . According to an official estimate from July 1, 2007, it has 192,999 inhabitants. The county seat is in Bellingham .

The county covers an area of 6,484 square kilometers, of which 5,490 square kilometers are land and 995 square kilometers (15.34%) are water.
It is bordered to the east by Okanogan County , to the south by Snohomish County , to the west by the Pacific Ocean or on the San Juan Islands located San Juan County and to the north by the Canadian province of British Columbia .
For Whatcom County also belongs Point Roberts , the southern end of British Columbia to belong to the First Nation of Tsawwassen named peninsula at the Boundary Bay with its capital Tsawwassen . It can only be reached by land via Canada.

As of the 2000 census , the county had 166,814 people. There were 64,446 households and 41,116 families. The population density was 30 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.41% White, 0.69% African American, 2.82% Native American, 2.78% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, and 2.49% other races Groups; 2.66% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.21% of the population.
Of the 64,446 households, 30.40% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 51.20% were married couples living together, 8.80% were single mothers. 36.20% were not families. 25.60% are single households and 8.40% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.03.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.10% residents under 18 years of age, 14.20% between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.50% between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.50% between 45 and 64 years of age 11.60% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 97.10 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 95.00 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 40,005 , and the median income for a family is $ 49,325. Males had a median income of $ 37,589 versus $ 26,193 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,025. 14.20% of the population and 7.80% of families are below the poverty line. 14.20% of these were under 18 years of age and 8.30% were 65 years of age or older.
