Thurston County is a county in the state of Washington , United States . The county seat is in Olympia , which is also the capital of Washington State. The county is named after the politician Samuel Thurston .

The county covers an area of ​​2004 square kilometers, of which 1,883 square kilometers are land and 121 square kilometers (6.03 percent) are water. It is bordered clockwise by counties: Pierce , Lewis , Grays Harbor, and Mason .

The county had a population of 207,355 people as of the 2000 census . There were 81,625 households and 54,933 families. The population density was 110 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 85.66% White, 2.35% African American, 1.52% Native American, 4.41% Asian, 0.52% Pacific Islander, and 1.69% other races Groups; 3.85% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 4.53% of the population.
