Kittitas County is a county in the US state of Washington . It has 33,362 inhabitants. The seat of the county administration ( County Seat ) is in Ellensburg .

The county covers an area of 6,043 square kilometers; of which 93 square kilometers (1.54 percent) are water.
history
Kittitas County was formed on November 24, 1883. There are different interpretations of the name, which comes from the Yakama language. According to one source, it is said to mean “just about anything from white limestone to slate rock and a bevy of people to land of plenty . Most anthropologists and historians admit that each of these interpretations depends on which dialect is spoken. "

According to the 2000 census , the county had 33,362 people. There were 13,382 households and 778,832 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.77% White, 0.71% African American, 0.91% Native American, 2.19% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, and 2.30% other races Groups; 1.97% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.00% of the population.
Of the 13,382 households, 26.20% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 47.80% were married couples living together, 7.20% were single mothers. 41.80% were not families. 28.40% were single households and 8.60% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.90.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 20.60% residents under 18 years of age, 21.60% between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.60% between 25 and 44 years of age, 21.60% between 45 and 64 years of age 11.60% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 98.70 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 97.20 males.
The median income for a household in the 32,546 USD , and the median income for a family was 46,057 USD. Males had a median income of $ 36,257 versus $ 25,640 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,928. 19.60% of the population and 10.50% of families are below the poverty line. 15.60% of them were under 18 years of age and 8.20% were 65 years of age or older.
