Pend Oreille County is a county in the state of Washington in the United States . It has 11,732 inhabitants. The county seat is in Newport .

The county has an area of 3,692 square kilometers, of which 65 square kilometers (1.76 percent) are water. The Pend Oreille River runs through the county from Newport in the south to the Canadian border in the north, about 15 kilometers downriver from Metaline Falls .

As of the 2000 census , the county had 11,732 people. There were 4,639 households and 3,261 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.53% White, 0.14% African American, 2.88% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.20% Pacific Islander, and 0.57% other races Groups; 2.04% were from two or more races. 2.05% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,639 households, 29.60% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.50% were married couples living together, 8.40% were single mothers. 29.70% were not families. 25.00% were single households and 10.50% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.98 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.30% of residents under 18 years of age, 5.50% between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.80% between 25 and 44 years of age, 29.50% between 45 and 64 years of age 14.90% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 100.50 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 99.60 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 31,677 , and the median income for a family is $ 36,977. Males had a median income of $ 36,951 versus $ 20,693 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,731. 18.10% of the population and 13.60% of families are below the poverty line. 27.60% of these were under 18 years of age and 6.40% were 65 years of age or older.
Protected areas and cultural monuments
North of Metaline lying Crawford State Park with the third largest limestone cave in the state. In 2019, the National Register of Historic Places listed nine buildings, structures, facilities and other significant objects in the county , including the Boundary Dam and Box Canyon Bridge .
