Metaline Falls is a small town ( Town ) in Pend Oreille County in the State of Washington . As of the 2010 United States Census , Metaline Falls had 238 residents.

history

The appearance of the first indigenous peoples in the area of ​​today's Metaline Falls dates back to about 12,000 years ago. European fur traders first crossed the area around 1810 . Metaline Falls settlement was established in 1900; most of the residents worked in the Mammoth and Morning Lead-Zinc Mines . Metaline Falls was officially recognized as a local authority on May 13, 1911 .

The train sequences for the 1993 film Benny & Joon were filmed in the Metaline Falls area; the 1997 film The Postman was partially shot in the area.

2010 Census

As of the 2010 census , Metaline Falls had 238 residents, 124 households, and 54 families. The population density was 437.6 per km ². There were 206 housing units at an average density of 378.8 per km².

The population was 94.5% white , 0.4% African American , 2.1% Indian , 0.8% Asian , and 2.1% two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 1.7% of the population.

Of the 124 households, 24.2% had children under the age of 18, 36.3% were run by married couples living together , 4% by single mothers and 3.2% by single fathers; 56.5% were non-families. 49.2% of households were singles and 18.5% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 1.92 and the average family size was 2.91 people.

The median age in the city was 48.3 years. 20.6% of the population were under 18, 4.6% between 18 and 24, 18.9% between 25 and 44, 37.8% between 45 and 64 and 18.1 65 years or older. 47.9% of the population were men and 52.1% women.

As of the 2000 census , Metaline Falls had 223 residents, 122 households, and 52 families. The population density was 410 per km². There were 192 housing units at an average density of 353 per km².

The population was 96.86% whites , 1.35% Asians , 0.4% other "races" and 1.35% two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 0.45% of the population.

Of the 122 households, 18% had children under the age of 18, 36.1% were run by married couples living together and 4.9% by single mothers; 56.6% were non-families. 54.1% of households were singles and 21.3% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 1.83 and the average family size was 2.79 people.

The median age in the city was 49 years. 19.3% of the population were under 18, 3.6% between 18 and 24, 21.1% between 25 and 44, 33.2% between 45 and 64 and 22.9 65 years or older. There were 95.6 men for every 100 women, and 85.6 men for every 100 women over the age of 18.
