The Chelan County is a county in the US state of Washington of the United States . The county seat is Wenatchee .

Lake Chelan is in the county . With a depth of 452 m, it is the third deepest lake in the United States and the ninth deepest on earth. The county covers an area of 7,753 square kilometers; of which 187 square kilometers (2.41 percent) are water surfaces.
history
The county was established on March 13, 1899. The name of the county goes to the Indian tribe of Chelan back. The name is derived from a word from a Salish language , Tsi - Laan , which means deep water . Lake Chelan and Chelan River were named after the same word .

According to the 2000 census , the county had 66,616 people. There were 25,021 households and 17,364 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.63% White, 0.26% African American, 0.99% Native American, 0.68% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, and 12.19% other races Groups; 2.14% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 19.26% of the population.
Of the 25,021 households, 34.50% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 56.40% were married couples living together, 8.70% were single mothers. 30.60% were not families. 25.10% were single households and 10.80% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.14.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 28.00% residents under 18 years of age, 8.30% between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.20% between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.70% between 45 and 64 years of age 13.90% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.10 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 96.80 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 37,316 , and the median income for a family is $ 46,293. Males had a median income of $ 35,065 versus $ 25,838 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,273. 12.40% of the population and 8.80% of families are below the poverty line. 16.00% of these were under 18 years of age and 7.40% were 65 years of age or older.
