Douglas County is a county in the state of Washington , United States . 32,603 people live here. The county seat is in Waterville .

history
The county was formed on November 28, 1883 from parts of Lincoln County . It was named after Stephen Arnold Douglas , a politician, statesman and rival of Abraham Lincoln for the office of President.

The county had a population of 32,603 as of the 2000 census . There were 11,726 households and 8,876 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 84.65% White, 0.31% African American, 1.09% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, and 10.83% other races Groups; 2.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 19.73% of the population.
Of the 11,726 households, 38.40% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 61.60% were married couples living together, and 9.70% were single mothers. 24.30% were not families. 20.00% were single households and 7.80% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.16.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 29.50% of residents under 18 years of age, 8.20% between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.30% between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.40% between 45 and 64 years of age 12.70% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.20 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 96.00 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 38,464 , and the median income for a family was $ 43,777. Males had a median income of $ 35,917 versus $ 24,794 for females.
