East Wenatchee is a place in Douglas County in the US state of Washington in the United States and has 5757 inhabitants (2000). East Wenatchee is located on the Columbia River in southwest Douglas County (Washington) at an altitude of 217 m. The Columbia forms the border with neighboring Chelan County . Across the river is Wenatchee , the capital of the Wenatchee – East Wenatchee, Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area , which is defined for statistical purposes and includes both counties.
There are two international partnerships. East Wenatchee has been a twin town of Misawa in Japan since 2001 and the local Eastmont Highschool is a partner school of the Andreae High School in Herrenberg , with which it has regularly held student exchanges since 1986 .
Wenatchee Airport , also known as Pangborn Memorial Airport , is to the east within the city limits . In 1931, Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon landed in what is now East Wenatchee , coming from Japan after crossing the Pacific Ocean for the first time.
