Klickitat County is a county in the US state of Washington in the United States . According to an official July 1, 2007 estimate, there were 20,097 people in Klickitat County. The county seat is in Goldendale .

The county covers an area of 4932 square kilometers; 82 square kilometers (1.67 percent) of this is water.
history
Klickitat County was formed on December 20, 1859 from parts of Walla Walla County . It was named after the Klickitat , a Native American tribe. The capital became Goldendale in 1878 , which is still the seat of the county government today.
The Maryhill Stonehenge monument on Columbia was built for those who died in the First World War from the county .

The county had a population of 19,161 as of the 2000 census . There were 7,473 households and 5,305 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.56% White, 0.27% African American, 3.47% Native American, 0.73% Asian, 0.21% Pacific Islander, and 5.02% other races Groups; 2.75% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 7.81% of the population.
Of the 7,473 households, 32.30% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 57.70% were married couples living together, 9.10% were single mothers. 29.00% were not families. 23.80% were single households and 9.00% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 2.99 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.10% residents under 18 years of age, 6.50% between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.70% between 25 and 44 years of age, 27.00% between 45 and 64 years of age 13.80% were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 99.50 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 98.80 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 34,267 , and the median income for a family is $ 40,414. Males had a median income of $ 36,067 versus $ 21,922 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,502. 17.00% of the population and 12.60% of families are below the poverty line. 22.50% of these were under 18 years of age and 15.10% were 65 years of age or older.
