history

The creation and expansion of the park was made possible with several land donations in 1933 and 1934. It was established by members of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The effects of the work of the CCC can be observed at the area called “Bowl and Pitcher”: a suspension bridge, sheltered rest areas, toilets, the park administration building, offices and a souvenir shop. CCC workers also created the rock walls and much of the Aubrey White Parkway , toilets on Centennial Trail near Carlson Trailhead, and several hiking trails in the park.

Furnishing

The partial areas of the park include the "Bowl and Pitcher", the Nine Mile Recreation Area , the Little Spokane River Natural Area, the 600 acres (approx. 240 ha) park for all-terrain vehicles, the area equipped with bridle paths and part of the 37 mi (60 km) long Spokane River Centennial Trail . The Spokane House Interpretive Center features exhibits on the Spokane , the early white settlers, fur hunters and traders, the area's military history, and Spokane House , the nearby former fur trading post.

tourism

The park offers opportunities for camping, fishing, swimming, picnicking, boating, canoeing, kayaking, bird and wildlife watching, ATV riding, horse riding, biking, hiking, and climbing. The campsites are located in the Bowl and Pitcher, in the Nine Mile Recreation Area and on Lake Spokane.
