particularities

originated from magma-induced steam explosion

The Battle Ground Lake State Park is a 275 acre (111 ha) large recreation area, about 3 mi (4.8 km) northeast of the city of Battle Ground in Clark County in the US state of Washington . The state park is covered by an evergreen forest, in the center of which there is a maar of volcanic origin. The park is administered by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission.

history

The park is where a 400 ft (122 m) high volcano from Boring Lava Field was located, which was where a magma-induced steam explosion occurred 105,000 years ago, creating a bean-shaped maar that later filled with water so that a crater lake was created. There was a resort on the lake in the 1920s, and a consortium of business people planned to upgrade, including a. through the construction of a dance hall, the installation of swimming pools and other amusements in addition to an own power station and the equipment with electrical lighting. From 1964 to 1968 the resort was operated by Virgil Dollar, a member of the family after which the nearby intersection "Dollars Corner" was named. The state initiated the purchase of the property in 1965, which was completed in 1966 for $ 550,000. At a meeting in 1970, the State Parks and Recreation Commission determined that "Battle Ground" should be written in two words as opposed to the nearby city.

tourism

The park includes a swimming area, a boat slip, a campsite and holiday cabins for rent. Hiking and bridle paths lead around the lake and all over the summit area. Rainbow and coastal cutthroat trout are released in late winter and spring . Largemouth bass , grass carp and crappies are resident in the area, but trout fishing is the main attraction for the anglers, especially on opening day.
