Horst Schütz (born May 8, 1951 in Kassel ) is a former German racing cyclist .
Horst Schütz was active as a cyclist in the 1970s and 1980s and was successful in various disciplines. In 1975 he became two-time German amateur champions , in two-man team driving and in team time trial . In 1976 he became a professional and German sprint champion .
Until 1987 Schütz was active in various cycling teams, drove road races as well as in six-day races . He contested a total of 126 six-day races, of which he was able to win three: in 1980 that in Zurich and 1981 in Hanover with Roman Hermann and in 1984 the Berlin six-day race with Danny Clark . He won three times the “Great Christmas Stayer Award” in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle . In 1979, starting for the Kondor cycling team , he won the points classification at the International Tour of Vitamalz , a predecessor of the Germany Tour, and at the Tour of Germany in 1980 , he finished second in this classification. In 1979 he won the world cup in the standing race .
In 1984 Horst Schütz became world champion of the stayers in Barcelona , led by Christian Dippel . In the following year he took second place again at the German championship of standing and then retired from cycling .
