Rudi Mirke

Rudolf "Rudi" Mirke (born June 16, 1920 in Breslau ; † December 10, 1951 in Berlin ) was a German racing cyclist .

In 1943 - in the middle of the Second World War - Rudi Mirke became the German "war champion" for amateurs in street races, and one year later German champion. After the war Mirke became a professional and turned to the more lucrative track cycling . In 1946 (with Harry Saager ) and 1947 (with Hans Preiskeit ) he was German champion in two-man team driving . From 1947 to 1949 Mirke came third in the German Sprint Championship three times in a row . In 1947 and 1948 he rode for the German cycling team Rabeneick, where he met the winner of the Germany Tour 1938 and Tour de France participant Hermann Schild .

Mirke also started in 14 six-day races , most of them together with Preiskeit. In December 1951, he fell in the Berlin six-day race on the narrow track in the sports hall at the radio tower ; a few days later he died of his injuries in hospital.

In 1949 Rudi Mirke played in the film " Um ein Nasenlänge " (with Theo Lingen , Hans Moser , Sonja Ziemann and Rudolf Prack ); The director was EW Emo . The film was subtitled "A funny film about the six-day race". Mirke played himself alongside other well-known six-day racing drivers such as Ferdinando Terruzzi and Hans Preiskeit .
