Thorsten Rund (born February 25, 1976 in Lübben ) is a former German racing cyclist .

Athletic career

In 1992 Thorsten Rund, a member of RSC Cottbus , became German youth champion in road racing. In the following year he was two-time junior world champion on the track , in the points race and in the team pursuit (with Ronny Lauke , Dirk Ronellenfitsch , Holger Roth ) and third in the single pursuit . In 1994 he finished second in the single pursuit at the Junior World Championships.

In 1996, Rund switched to the elite class and finished third with the German four -man team at the World Railroad Championships in the team pursuit ( Guido Fulst , Heiko Szonn and Danilo Hondo ). In 1998 he and Christian Lademann became German runner-up in the two-man team , and the following year he was German champion with Fulst and second in the team pursuit. In 2000 he started in the points race at the Olympic Games in Sydney and finished 23rd.

In 2001, Rund became a road cycling professional with Team Coast and started for this cycling team in 2003 at the Vuelta a España , which he finished in 142nd. In 2004 he took third place in the team pursuit at the German track championships. In 2008 he ended his active cycling career.

Professional

Thorsten Rund and his wife have been running the café in Altranft Castle in Bad Freienwalde since 2015 . Once a week he offers cycling training for schoolchildren there.
