Günther Pankoke (born August 13, 1925 in Bielefeld ) is a former German cyclist .

Athletic career

After the Second World War he started as an amateur for the RC Zugvogel Bielefeld club . He finished the 1947 season on the road as an amateur with a total of five wins and four second places. In the annual ranking of amateurs in all German zones, he came sixth with this record. Günther Pankoke was a professional racing driver from 1948 to 1956. He was twice German champion in two-man team driving , in 1949 with Werner Holthöfer , in 1953 with Lothar Ehmer .

In 1954 Pankoke was German runner-up in road racing. In the same year he started at the road world championship in Solingen and finished last by crossing the finish line hand in hand with Franz Reitz , the only German driver who was still in the race besides him. Out of a total of 71 drivers, only 21 made it to the finish. In addition, Pankoke has won several stages on the Germany Tour in various years . In 1955 he finished seventh overall. In the same year he started as the first German professional after the Second World War in the Tour de France and finished 37th in the overall standings as well as in the Vuelta , where he was 41st.

After the end of his active cycling career, Pankoke opened the Zur Etappe pub in his hometown of Bielefeld .
