Athletic career
In 1961 (with Lothar Claesges ) and 1963 (with Ernst Streng ) Klemens Großimlinghaus won the Silver Eagle of Cologne . In the summer of 1961, both were the most successful teams in German track cycling with eight wins and six podium places. In 1963 he became German champion in the team pursuit . In the same year he won the title of runner-up in the world championship in Rocourt near Liège with the German four-man team (Ernst Streng, Karl-Heinz Henrichs , Lothar Claesges) . Then he went over to the professionals . As an amateur he started for the Dust Cloud Krefeld club .
In 1967 Großimlinghaus was a two-time German champion, in two-man team driving and in the Omnium . In addition, he took several podium places in German championships; In 1968 he took part in the Tour de France , but gave up during the third stage. Miscellaneous
Klemens Großimlinghaus was the son of the Krefeld cycling idol Clemens Großimlinghaus (* 1907), called "Mücke". The early death of Klemens Großimlinghaus at the age of 49 gave rise to speculation about doping , as around 20 racing drivers of his generation, including Ernst Streng, also died relatively young.
20 years after his death, paintings created by Klemens Großimlinghaus were shown on the initiative of his wife Heike in the Greiffenhorst house in Krefeld .
