Rainer Podlesch (born October 4, 1944 in Dobbertin ) is a former German racing cyclist and today's trainer.

Career

From 1965 to 1986 Podlesch, a member of the SV Zehlendorfer Eichhörnchen, was part of the German national cycling team. In the four-four he was second at the Olympic Games in Mexico City (with Jürgen Colombo , Jürgen Kißner , Udo Hempel and Karl Link ), but after the first round he was exchanged for Kißner due to injury. In 1967 he was third in the World Cup in Amsterdam (with Link, Kißner and Karl-Heinz Henrichs ) in the team pursuit and at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he drove in the four-wheeler (20th place).

However, Rainer Podlesch had his greatest successes with the standing . He was world champion twice, in 1978 and 1983. In addition, he was several times vice world champion and third at world championships.

Until 2013, Rainer Podlesch was the representative for standing sport at the Association of German Cyclists , until he was replaced by Mario Vonhof .

He is the father of Carsten Podlesch (* 1969) and the older brother of Karsten Podlesch (* 1955), both of whom are also cyclists.
