Olaf Paltian
Olaf Paltian (born September 21, 1952 in Berlin ) is a former German cyclist and national cycling champion .
Athletic career
Paltian started for the RC Charlottenburg . His first major success was a stage win in the 1973 Bayern Tour. One year later he was German champion in the team time trial with his teammates Algis Oleknavicius , Michael Becker and Rainer Podlesch . He was also able to win the round race in Berlin . In 1975 he was runner-up in the team time trial and was part of the squad of the Federation of German Cyclists (BDR) for the International Peace Ride , which he finished in 28th place. In 1976 and 1978 he was again German champion with the team. At the Summer Olympics in Montreal he was used in the German foursome, which was just under fourth place. Fifteen seconds separated the team from the bronze medal. At the Grand Prix Wilhelm Tell in Switzerland he was able to win two stages. In 1977 it was enough again for the silver medal with the street foursome at the national championship. In the individual race of the UCI World Championship , however, he was eliminated. In 1978 he was able to win the stage trip from Neuwied . A year later he won the Southern Black Forest Tour and again took bronze with the team at the German championship. He finished the Rhineland-Palatinate Tour with a stage win in fourth place. In 1981, with third place, he was able to achieve a podium finish in road races for the German championship. In 1984 he ended his career.
