Dieter Puschel

Dieter Puschel (born June 23, 1939 in Berlin ; † May 31, 1992 in Stommeln ) was a German racing cyclist and sporting director in cycling . He was a professional from 1961 to 1979 .

Career

In 1960, Puschel won the German amateurs championship in the 100 km team time trial with the four of the NRVg Luisenstadt . In the same year he won the four-stage trip in Berlin and thus achieved his first major individual success. He was named in the line-up of the Association of German Cyclists for the road world championship in 1960 on the Sachsenring .

In 1961 he switched to the professionals and first signed a contract with Brtolina , won the Fichtel & Sachs Prize and became German runner-up in road driving . Then Puschel took the Tour de France , which he finished in 35th. For the 1962 season he moved to the Belgian team Wiel's-Groene Leeuw , in which he competed in the 1962 Tour de France and was 28th in the overall standings. In his second year in the paid camp, he won the German Road Championship. He drove in different teams a. a. with Sigi Renz , Hennes Junkermann , Wilfried Peffgen , Charly Gaul , Karl-Heinz Kunde and Rudi Altig .

He distinguished himself as a good climber, especially on tours such as the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia . In 1963 , he achieved the best placement in the Tour of France, in 15th place, where he competed seven times. In 1972 he drove the Grande Boucle in France for the last time in the German Rokado team and finished 42nd overall. Since then he has only started in smaller circuit races and six-day races. In 1979, at the age of 40, he drove his last season in the German Condor team . He won a total of 10 races among the professional drivers.

After finishing his professional career, Dieter Puschel worked as a manager for cyclists such as Dietrich Thurau and Gregor Braun . In 1979 and 1980 he was the sporting director of the Kondor team .

At the end of the 80s he withdrew completely from cycling and dedicated himself to his cycling business in Cologne-Esch.
