Paul Kohl was one of the strongest German road drivers in the 1920s. As an amateur and a member of the Berlin club BBC Germania , he won numerous races until the First World War suddenly interrupted his racing career. In 1920 Kohl became a professional, the following year he was German runner-up in road racing, in 1923 he took third place and finally he won the championship title in 1924. In 1922 he was second overall at the German Grand Prix . He won around the Hainleite three times, in 1922, 1925 and 1928, around Cologne in 1924 and 1925, and around Berlin in 1925 , after winning this race as an amateur in 1913 and 1920. He won the Great Saxony Prize four times between 1920 and 1924 .
After his last victory in 1928 at Rund um die Hainleite , Paul Kohl retired from active cycling. In the 1950s and 1960s, his Berlin club organized the Paul Kohl Memorial Race , a cross-country race in the north of Berlin.
