Peter Hilse

Peter Hilse (born May 8, 1962 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a former German racing cyclist . In 1987 he became German champion of professional road drivers.

Cycling career

Peter Hilse began his cycling career at the age of 13 and later became a youth national cyclist. In the amateur men's category , he achieved his first successes in 1983 with first place in the one-day race around Düren and third in the Rhineland-Palatinate Tour . In 1983 he started for the first time at the UCI Road World Championships and was classified 54th in the amateurs road race.

1985 occurred's help with a contract with the Spanish cycling team Teka, which also the German Raimund Dietzen was engaged in the professional paddock over. He crowned his first year as a professional with third place at the German Road Cycling Championships . There he was also well represented in the following years, he finished second in 1986, German champion in 1987 and third again in 1989. In 1986 he won a number of smaller races, but also took part in the Tour of Andalusia , in which he won two stages.

After Hilse had to cancel his participation in the 1985 road world championship due to illness, he was able to place himself in the world championship for the first time in 1987. He was ranked 46th out of 71 riders rated. Hilse achieved his best World Championship placement in 1989, 16th, in 1988 he was eliminated early, and his last World Championship participation in 1990 ended with 31st. At the Tour de France , Hilse only came into the ranks once , In 1987 he finished 106th out of 135 drivers. He appeared more often in the results lists of the Tour of Spain . With three listings in 1989, 1990 and 1991, he achieved the best result in 1989 after a stage victory with 39th place.

The 1989 cycling season became Hilse's best career segment, ranked 123rd in the FICP Road Ranking . In 1991 he switched to the Spanish cycling team Seur-Otero and this year mainly competed in smaller road races in Spain, in which he achieved a number of top places. In two stage races, the Tour of Andalusia and the 10-stage Vuelta al Táchira in Venezuela , he won one stage each. In 1992 Hilse appeared for the last time in the results lists of notable cycling events. He drove the French stage race Paris – Nice and took his last notable victory in the international road criterion in Santander .

After the 1992 season, Hilse, who had made a name for himself as a mountain specialist, ended his cycling career. He then became a representative for various bicycle companies.
