Alfred Köcher (born January 5, 1874 in Berlin ; † September 14, 1940 there ) was a German racing cyclist .
Athletic career
Alfred Köcher was one of the most versatile German cyclists in the 1890s. In 1895 he won the cycling races around Central Germany , Warsaw-Kalisch-Warsaw (517 km) , Leipzig-Berlin-Leipzig-Dresden-Leipzig (500 km) and Dresden-Berlin . From 1894 to 1896 he was the holder of the twelve-hour road record. Then he went over to the professionals.
Twice, in 1896 and 1898, he was German road master, and in 1898 German master of the standing . In 1897 he set a world record over three kilometers behind the multi-seater lead (3: 31.2 minutes). From 1896 to 1898 he was also German champion over the 100 kilometers on the track.
The quiver, described as small and skinny, was a particular crowd-pleaser in Berlin. In 1891, the trained construction technician and enthusiastic sailor joined the Friedenau cycling club and started cycling, initially on the pennywheel . In 1900 he resigned from active cycling.
Honors
In the years before the First World War, the “Alfred Köcher Prize” was awarded on the Berlin “Olympia-Bahn” .
