Werner Betz (cyclist)

Werner Betz (born January 11, 1953 in Bad Cannstatt ) is a former German cyclist .

Werner Betz was a professional from 1977 to 1989. Three times - 1982, 1984, 1985 - he was German champion in the standing race . In 1984 and 1985 he won the title of European champion. In addition, he was third in the two-man team driving at the German rail championships, 1982 and 1983, both times together with his brother Heinz .

In 1985 Betz started at the World Railroad Championships in Bassano del Grappa and came third in the professional standers, behind pacemaker Dieter Durst . He was able to repeat this success at the 1987 World Cup in Vienna with Christian Dippel as a pacemaker. In 1988 he was disqualified after a positive doping control at the World Cup.
