Heinz Jakobi

Heinz Jakobi (born September 3, 1922 in Nuremberg ; † November 17, 2014 ) was a German cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Before the Second World War , Heinz Jakobi, whose father Josef was also a cyclist, was already racing. At the age of 16 he was the Franconian youth champion in road racing . From 1947 he raced as an amateur and started for the Nuremberg club RC Herpersdorf . His first year with the amateurs was successful, he won a. a. Around Frankfurt and the Schwalbe anniversary race in Nuremberg. He was Bavarian and South German champion and in 1948 with the team of RC Herpersdorf German road champion over 100 kilometers.

Jakobi was a professional cyclist from 1952 to 1960 . In 1954 he was third in the Berlin stage trip . From 1956 to 1959 he was German champion in the standing race four times in a row , in 1958 and 1959 behind the pacemaker Kurt Schindler . In 1960 Jakobi was supposed to start at the World Railroad Championships in Karl-Marx-Stadt , but before that he fell during a race on the local Reichelsdorfer Keller cycling track and injured his spine seriously. Against the advice of doctors, he tried a comeback in 1961, but had to end his career for good because of severe pain.

Heinz Jakobi then worked in the mineral oil industry, where he managed the planning, construction and installation of many Bavarian petrol stations. He died of a bicycle accident at the age of 92.
