Roland Günther

Roland Günther (born December 11, 1962 in Darmstadt ) is a former German cyclist and world champion.

Career

Roland Günther, who started as an amateur for the RSG Wiesbaden, won as a cyclist a. a. In 1982 the vice world championship and in 1983 the world championship with the German four-wheel scull and in 1984 a bronze medal in the team pursuit in Los Angeles . Günther also established himself in the single pursuit in 1985 and won the bronze medal at the world championship in Bassano del Grappa with the fastest time behind two Soviet Russians.

In 1987 Günther moved to the professional warehouse after the World Railroad Championships in Vienna . Here he drove for two years for American teams with several victories in Europe and America. In the winter months he specialized in six-day races . In addition to numerous podium places, he crowned his beginning professional career in the first six-day season by winning the European championship in two-man team driving in Zurich together with his partner Volker Diehl . In 1992 he also became the German standing champion. In 1993 he ended his active career after 60 six-day races with two wins and many podium places.
