Marco Mathis (born April 7, 1994 in Tettnang ) is a German racing cyclist who is active on the road and track .

Athletic career

As a junior and up-and-coming rider , Mathis was not only active in road cycling, but also on the track and in cyclocross . In 2010 Mathis was runner-up in Germany at the youth cyclo-cross championship. In 2012, he won a stage of the Tour de la Région de Lodz junior race and took third place in the overall ranking of the international 3-stage tour .

From 2013 to 2016 Mathis started on the road for the UCI Continental Team rad-net Rose . At the 2013 German Railway Championships , he and Christopher Muche were German runner-up in the two-man team and the following year he was third with Pascal Ackermann . 2015 he won together with Kersten Thiele , Michel Koch and Maximilian Beyer second place in the German championship the Team Pursuit .

At the German Championships in 2016 , Marco Mathis was the most successful athlete in the endurance area: He won three medals, one gold in the individual and one team pursuit (with Maximilian Beyer , Leif Lampater and Lucas Liß ) and a silver one in the points race . In the team pursuit, his team set a new track record in the Cottbus cycling stadium with 4: 08.891 minutes. A few weeks earlier he had finished third in the U23 individual time trial at the German Road Cycling Championships. In October 2016 Mathis became world champion in the U23 individual time trial .

He then received a contract with the UCI WorldTeam Katusha Alpecin for 2017 and 2018 and dedicated himself entirely to road cycling. For the 2019 season he switched to the Professional Continental Team Cofidis and finished 14th in the Grand Prix de Denain , a one-day race hors categorie . At the European Road Championships in 2019 , Marco Mathis won the silver medal in the mixed relay with the German team .
