German Road Cycling Championships 2019

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Road Cycling Championships 2019 took place on June 28, 2019 in Spremberg near Cottbus and on June 30 at the Sachsenring in Hohenstein-Ernstthal and Oberlungwitz in Saxony .

The race track for the individual time trials of the U23, women and men was located on the Spremberg opencast mine, where it was led over a newly laid road. For the U23 and women the route was around 30 kilometers, for the men 35 kilometers. The host was the RK final spurt 09 Cottbus .

At the road races, the Association of German Cyclists not only acted as the organizer, but also as the host after there were problems finding a venue for 2019. The former cyclist and race organizer Dietmar Lohr from Chemnitz was responsible on site. Sachsenring Event GmbH agreed to provide the Sachsenring with the start / finish area for the two races for women and men. The city of Hohenstein-Ernstthal granted the route approval for a 12.9 kilometer lap, 3.5 kilometers of which was on the racetrack. One lap was 183 meters in altitude.

The race turned out to be a "bizarre heat battle": it was almost 40 degrees. In addition, the organizers had decided to remove all drivers who were more than two minutes behind the leaders from the race. This was intended to minimize possible risks on the passages where the drivers could meet. As a result, after 40 kilometers, 70 drivers had already retired, 25 kilometers later another 40. Of the 190 drivers who started, only 15 ultimately reached the finish. The top three, Maximilian Schachmann , Marcus Burghardt and Andreas Schillinger , all from the Bora-hansgrohe team , mastered the race in the style of a team time trial .

The U23 road race was held on June 15 as the 2019 three-country championship together with the Luxembourg and Swiss U23 championships in Gippingen , Switzerland . As in previous years, the team time trial championship took place in Genthin on September 8th .
