The German Alliance for Marine Research is an alliance between the federal government and the northern German states of Bremen , Hamburg , Lower Saxony , Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The alliance was decided at the beginning of May 2019 by the Joint Science Conference (GWK).

The federal and state governments will jointly provide more than 56 million euros by 2022. The federal government takes on 80 percent, the states 20 percent.
