Andreas Schillinger (born July 13, 1983 in Kümmersbruck near Amberg ) is a German racing cyclist .
Career
Schillinger began cycling in 1997 as a youth cyclist in his father's club, the RSG Vilstal. He was accepted into the Bavarian national squad and won both the individual and team rankings in the Junior Radbundesliga 2001 . During his time in the U23 age category , Schillinger drove for the TEAG Köstritzer team . In 2004 he was able to finish the U23 national cycling league with second place in the overall standings.
In 2006 he started for the first time in a cycling team with an international license, the Continental Team Milram . His greatest success up to then in the elite class was winning the German Mountain Championship in 2007 , which he was able to repeat in 2009.
In 2012, Schillinger competed in the Giro d'Italia for Team NetApp and thus the first 3-week tour of the country of his career, which he finished in 107th place. He contested his second "Grand Tour" in 2014 with the Tour de France . On the tenth stage he was almost taken out of the race because he had exceeded the waiting period , as he was waiting for his badly fallen team-mate Tiago Machado , who was third in the overall standings , and accompanied him 60 kilometers to the stage finish. Both drivers were left in the race by the jury due to the extraordinary circumstances. He finally finished the tour on the 144th. In 2015 he had to leave the tour because of an infection after the third stage. He contested and finished three other Grand Tours with the Tour de France 2016 , the Vuelta a España 2017 and the Giro d'Italia 2018 .
