The Hawker Fury was a single-seat British biplane - fighter of the 1931st
The Hawker Fury made its maiden flight on March 25, 1931. When it entered service at No. 43 Squadron in May 1931, she was the first Royal Air Force fighter to top the speed of 322 km / h. The basic structure was made of metal with a fabric covering. The front fuselage was clad with metal. The machine had a tail-tail landing gear.
Fury Mk I.
About 160 copies of this version were built. The machine had a Rolls-Royce Kestrel IIS engine with 525 hp (390 kW).
Fury Mk II
The Fury Mk II received a new, 477 kW (640 hp) Rolls-Royce Kestrel VI engine. Compared to the Fury Mk I, the Fury Mk II had a 10% higher top speed. However, this led to increased fuel consumption. Despite a larger tank, the range was reduced by 10%.
98 copies were built for the RAF and used in six units. The first machines came at the beginning of 1937 at No. 25 Squadron in service. In 1939 they were replaced by the Hawker Hurricane . Some Fury Mk II were used as training aircraft after the outbreak of World War II .
The South African Air Force used the machine in East Africa at the beginning of the Second World War . Yugoslav machines were involved in defensive fighting during the German invasion in 1941.
One aircraft was equipped by Hawker with the Rolls-Royce Goshawk engine, which had evaporative cooling. For this purpose, surface coolers were installed in the nose area of the upper wing, which, unlike a conventional cooler, did not increase the air resistance of the machine.
production
The Hawker Fury was built in series by two companies (Hawkers, Kingston; General Aircraft, Hanworth).
