The Hawker P.1121 was a prototype for a single-engine, single-seat Mach 2+ air superiority fighter for the British Royal Air Force .
Development history
In February 1955, the Air Ministry launched a tender for a new interceptor . It should fly Mach 2 and climb to 60,000 ft (18,288 m) in less than six minutes . Hawker Siddeley submitted a draft called P.1103 , which was later developed and renamed P.1121 . When the construction of the first mock-up began in 1956 , a two-seater variant was also planned under the designation P.1116 , but this was discarded. In 1957/58 the development was canceled due to a change of strategy on the part of the British government.
