Jason Osborne (* 20th March 1994 in Mönchengladbach ) is a German lightweight - rowers and cyclists .

The 1.79 m tall Osborne is the son of a German and a British and started for the Mainz rowing club from 1878 . He is trained by Robert Sens .

The German runner-up in 2013, 2014 and 2016 in the lightweight single won the championship title in the lightweight double scull together with Moritz Moos in 2012 and 2015 .

In 2013 Osborne won the lightweight double scull title at the U23 World Championships together with Moos . At the 2013 World Championships without age restriction, the German lightweight double scull with Osborne and Moos as well as Julius Peschel and Jonas Schützeberg received the silver medal behind the Greek boat. In 2014, Moos and Osborne repeated their victory at the U23 World Championships, and at the 2014 World Championships they rowed to fifth place. A year later, with sixth place at the 2015 World Championships , the two secured direct qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games. Moos and Osborne started the 2016 Olympic year with the silver medal at the 2016 European Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel behind the Irish lightweight double scull . At the 2016 Olympic Games , they finished ninth.

Osborne and Lucas Schäfer took fifth place at the 2017 European Championships . The two of them also reached the A final at the 2017 World Championships , where they came in sixth. In 2018 Osborne competed in the lightweight single. He won the World Cup regattas in Belgrade and Linz. At the 2018 World Championships in Plovdiv, he won just under two seconds ahead of the Swiss Michael Schmid . In 2019 Osborne competed in the lightweight double scull with Jonathan Rommelmann . At the 2019 European Championships in Lucerne, the two won in front of the Italian boat. At the 2019 World Championships in Linz, the Irish won ahead of the Italians, followed by Rommermann and Osborne bronze.

In 2019 Osborne became world champion in ergowing at a virtual distance of 2000 meters at the World Rowing Indoor Championships in Long Beach .

Cycling

In 2017, the training group of the Mainz Rowing Club from 1878 around Osborne founded the Pro Cycling - Rowing team in Mainz . In 2018 Osborne started the German road cycling championships in the individual time trial and finished eighth, in 2019 he finished sixth.
