Stefano Basalini (* 29. November 1977 in Borgomanero ) is a former Italian lightweight - rowers , who won from 1997 to 2011 nine World Championship medals, including seven gold medals.

Career

Basalini won at the U23 World Championships in 1996 silver in the lightweight quadruple sculls , 1997, he won by Marco Audisio in lightweight double sculls . At the 1997 World Championships, with no age limit , he won the Italian lightweight quadruple. In 1998 in Cologne he won the title in the lightweight single .

In 1999 Basalini switched to a belt boat , namely the lightweight two-seater without a helmsman, and won his fourth consecutive world title with Paolo Pittino . In 2000 Pittino and Basalini won the second regatta in the rowing World Cup in the lightweight double scull in front of the second Italian boat with Elia Luini and Leonardo Pettinari , in the third World Cup regatta Luini and Pettinari won, while Basalini and Pittino only finished fifth. The Italian federation then nominated Luini and Pettinari for the 2000 Olympic Games .

2001 Basalini returned to the lightweight single, at the World Championships in 2001 and 2002 he received the silver medal behind the Irish Sam Lynch . In 2003 Basalini won two World Cup regattas and also won the World Championships in Milan ; in Milan the Italians won a total of three gold medals, all in lightweight scull boats .
