Peter Uhrig

Peter Uhrig (born May 23, 1965 in Worms ) is a former German rower . In 1989 he was world champion in the lightweight quadruple sculls.

Athletic career

The 1.90 m wide Peter Uhrig from Wormser Rowing Club Blue-White from 1883 won at the World Championships 1989 in Bled, together with Jan Fischer , Björn Gehlsen and Thomas Melges the title in the lightweight quadruple sculls . In 1990 in Tasmania , the four with Kai von Warburg finished seventh for Jan Fischer. In 1991 Uhrig rowed in the lightweight single, at the 1991 World Championships he won the silver medal behind the Irishman Niall O'Toole .

Since lightweight rowing was only played at the 1996 Olympic Games, Peter Uhrig tried his hand at double sculls without weight restrictions in 1992 . Together with Christian Händle he won the second heat at the Olympic Games in Barcelona , but then had to pass; his substitute Jens Köppen and Händle took eighth place. In 1993 Uhrig competed with Christian Händle in double sculls, at the 1993 World Championships in Račice u Štětí the two won the bronze medal behind the boats from France and Norway. The following year, the Norwegians Lars Bjønness and Rolf Thorsen won the 1994 World Championships , with Handel and Uhrig taking silver medals behind them. In 1995 Uhrig rowed together with Ingo Euler in the lightweight double sculls , the two finished tenth at the world championships . In 1996, the two finished eleventh at the 1996 Olympic Games .

At German championships in 1989 and 1990 Uhrig won the title in the lightweight quadruple sculls. In 1991 Peter Uhrig won the lightweight single. In 1992 Uhrig won the double scull title with Christian Händle, in 1993 and 1994 the two took second place behind Stephan Volkert and André Steiner . In 1996, Uhrig won his last championship title with Ingo Euler in the lightweight double scull, after he had already won in 1990 with Thomas Melges.
