Christian Handel
Christian Händle (born May 13, 1965 in Marburg ) is a former German rower .
Athletic career
The 1.91 m tall Christian Händle from the Karlstadt rowing club in 1928 won the bronze medal in the double scull at the U23 World Championships in 1985 together with Rolf Jäger , and in 1986 Jäger and Händle received the silver medal. In his last year at the U23 World Championships, Christian Händle won the single title in 1987 . At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , Handel and Ralf Thienel competed in a double scull and finished fourth. In 1989 Händle started at the World Championships in one and reached fifth place, the following year he missed the A final at the 1990 World Championships and placed ninth. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , Handel won the second round in a double scull with Peter Uhrig , who was then unable to compete. Together with the substitute rower Jens Köppen , Händle took eighth place. Also in 1993 Christian Händle competed with Peter Uhrig in a double scull, at the 1993 World Championships in Račice u Štětí the two won the bronze medal behind the boats from France and Norway. The following year, the Norwegians Lars Bjønness and Rolf Thorsen won the 1994 World Championships , with Händle and Uhrig taking silver medals behind them.
At the German championships in 1987 and 1988 Christian Händle took second place behind Peter-Michael Kolbe . In 1989 and 1990 Handel won the German championship title, in 1991 he was second behind Thomas Lange , who had competed in the GDR championships until 1990. In 1992, Peter Uhrig and Christian Händle won the title in the double scull, in 1993 and 1994 the two took second place behind Stephan Volkert and André Steiner .
Christian Händle is married to the two-time Olympic rowing champion Birgit Peter . Christian's brother Roland took part in the 2000 Olympic Games.
