André Willms
André Willms (born September 18, 1972 in Burg (near Magdeburg) ) is a former German rower .
successes
In 1990 he became junior world champion in single and was a member of the German national team until the end of his career in 2004.
André Willms was world champion in quadruples in 1993, 1999 and 2001, as well as Olympic champion in 1992 and 1996 . At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, he won the bronze medal in the quadruple sculls. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Willms finished fifth in the double foursome. In 1994 he was world champion in single , 1995 and 1997 vice world champion. André Willms ended his career in 2004. He was honored with a star on the “Walk of Fame” in Magdeburg. He was also awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President von Weizsäcker .
In 2004, André Willms was sent by the FDP in Saxony-Anhalt to the Federal Assembly , which Horst Köhler elected as Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany.
