Simone Raineri (born February 7, 1977 in Casalmaggiore or Bozzolo ) is an Italian rower who was able to win two Olympic medals in quadruples .

Career

Raineri began rowing in 1988. In 1994 he finished second at the Junior World Championships with the Italian quad scull , and in 1995 the Italian crew won the title. In 1998 he won a race with the Italian double scull for the first time at the World Cup in Hazewinkel, but at the 1998 World Rowing Championships Raineri sat in eighth place and finished fifth in this boat class. After a rather unsuccessful year 1999 in double sculls, Raineri was back in the Italian double scull in 2000 and won both the World Cup on the Rotsee and the Olympic Games in Sydney with this boat.

After two bronze medals at the World Championships in 2001 and 2002, the Italian double scull with Raineri only finished sixth at the World Championships in 2003, and a year later the boat only achieved tenth place at the Olympic Games. At the World Championships in 2005 with a fifth place and in 2006 with a fourth place, the Italian four-four slowly fought his way back to the top of the world. In 2007 the boat again finished fourth at the World Championships and received silver at the European Championships. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, Raineri rowed the silver medal behind the boat from Poland in a quad scull.
