Dr. Morton
Dr. Morton was a series of magazines published by Anne-Erber-Verlag . In 1974 and 1975 54 volumes appeared, many of which were indexed. A 55th volume was announced, but initially not published.
Dr. Morton was a horror novel that featured a "Mad Scientist" performing medical experiments on his victims. The “bad guy” always remained victorious and continued his deeds in the next volume. The series developed into the highest-circulation magazine novel series in the horror area.
However, the Federal Testing Office for Writings Harmful to Young People put 20 volumes on the index. The last numbers were already defused in the depictions of violence, which could not prevent permanent indexing and thus the discontinuation of the series. Finally, the series was continued in a more positive version with the title The Lord . However, it was less successful and only had 38 issues. There were other attempts to keep the successful figure alive with novels that had been defused with regard to the protection of minors. After the permanent indexing expired, this included "Dr. Morton Large Volumes", the "Dr. Morton Kriminal-Magazin" and paperbacks. However, all of these publications were short-lived and could not establish themselves commercially. The reason was probably that the consistent harshness and relentless cynicism of the old titles had to be dispensed with.
The original series was initially published fortnightly, from volume 23 weekly. In addition, 3 large volumes appeared. Authors under the group pseudonym John Ball were u. a. Rainer Maria Schröder and Sven Ove Kassau .
Since February 2017, the volumes have been published monthly in a new edition by Erber + Luther Verlag, including the novels indexed at the time, which were automatically deleted from the index after the period of 25 years had expired.
Since February 2020, a sequel to previously unpublished novels, beginning with Volume 55, has been published parallel to the publications of the original novels. These were already written in the 1970s, but no longer appeared because of the indexing. In addition, the stories from the series "Dr. Morton Großband", "Dr. Morton Kriminal Magazin international", "Kriminal Magazin international", "First German Kriminal Magazin international" and "Erber Taschenbuch" that did not appear in the original series are sorted chronologically. Newly written novels are also mixed in at different intervals which have the addition "How it all began", these play before the main series and tell of the beginnings of Morton and Grimsby.
