Hans Gruhne (born August 5, 1988 in Berlin ) is a German scull rower . He became Olympic champion with the double scull at the 2016 Olympic Games . At the world championships, Gruhne won gold in 2015 and bronze in 2007.

Gruhne grew up in Pätz ( Königs Wusterhausen district ). It was founded in 2006 in Amsterdam Junior World Champion in one . In 2007, at the age of 19, he was already used at the World Championships in Munich, where he achieved third place in the double fours with René Bertram , Karsten Brodowski , and Robert Sens . At the Olympic Games in Beijing , Gruhne was again in the German quadruple, the boat finished sixth in the final. In 2009 he started with Clemens Wenzel in double sculls at the U23 World Championships and won silver. In 2010, after a second place at the World Cup in Lucerne , Gruhne was nominated for the European Championships in double fours and reached fourth place. In 2011, Gruhne competed with Stephan Krüger in a double scull and won the silver medal at the world championships .

After a long break, Hans Gruhne returned in 2014 and competed again with Stephan Krüger in a double scull. In 2015 Gruhne switched to the double foursome, at the 2015 World Championships he won his first major international title in the adult class. In the following year he and Lauritz Schoof , Karl Schulze and Philipp Wende won the Olympic gold medal in a double foursome in Rio de Janeiro.

Hans Gruhne initially started for the Potsdam Rowing Society , but then switched to the Rowing Club Potsdam for the 2012 season .

For his sporting achievements, Hans Gruhne was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Gauck on November 1, 2016 .
