Abe Wiersma

Abe Wiersma (born August 14, 1994 ) is a Dutch rower who was European champion and world champion in quadruples in 2019 .

Athletic career

Abe Wiersma was fifth in the quadruple sculls at the Junior World Championships in 2011 and 2012 . In 2014 he finished sixth at the U23 World Championships . In 2015 and 2016 he won bronze in double sculls at the U23 World Championships together with Amos Keijser .

In 2017 he returned to the double fours. Together with Nicolas van Sprang , Koen Metsemakers and Freek Robbers , he reached sixth place at the European Championships in Račice u Štětí . At the World Championships in Sarasota Abe Wiersma, Koen Metsemakers, Amos Keijser and Freek Robbers took fourth place. In 2018 only Wiersma and Metsemakers stayed in the boat. The Dutch four-four with Dirk Uittenbogaard , Stef Broenink , Koen Metsemakers and Abe Wiersma took fifth place at both the European and World Championships. In 2019 Broenink switched to the single and Tone Wieten added the double four . The Dutch won the title at the European Championships in Lucerne ahead of the Italians. At the World Championships in Linz, the Dutch won ahead of the Poles and the Italians.
