Dieter Wiedenmann

Dieter Wiedenmann (born April 23, 1957 in Ulm ; † November 11, 1994 in Langensteinbach ) was a German rower .

Together with Raimund Hörmann from Ulm , Dieter Wiedenmann was already youth champion in double sculls. In the adult area, the two Ulmers formed the West German double quad with the two Ingelheimers Michael Dürsch and Albert Hedderich . In 1979 and 1982 the team was runner-up, each behind the boat from the GDR. In 1983 the West German crew won the world championship title before the GDR, this was the first defeat of the four-man from the GDR at world championships since the introduction of this boat class in 1974.

Another high point in the career of Dieter Wiedenmann and his three colleagues was the victory in the double foursome at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles . For this he and his rowmates of the double foursome Michael Dürsch, Albert Hedderich and Raimund Hörmann received the silver bay leaf.

Wiedenmann died at the age of 37 from internal bleeding during an operation to stabilize the spine.
