Robert Mills (rower)

Robert Mills (born December 9, 1957 in Halifax ) is a retired Canadian rower who won the Olympic bronze medal in singles in 1984.

The 1.93 m tall Robert Mills of the North Star Rowing Club in Dartmouth won both the double sculls and the double sculls competition at the 1983 Pan American Games . The following year, Mills was to take Bruce Ford's place in the quadruple, but Ford's teammates protested against the change in the Olympic season. Then Robert Mills started in the single and was able to prevail against Pat Walter in the Olympic qualification in this boat class. At the Olympic regatta in Los Angeles , Mills took third place behind Pertti Karppinen and Peter-Michael Kolbe .

In the 1985 season Mills finally moved to the double fours. Together with Doug Hamilton , Paul Douma and batsman Melvin LaForme , he won the title at the 1985 World Rowing Championships in Hazewinkel. The four Canadians won world championship bronze in both 1986 and 1987 . At the 1988 Olympic Games , the four Canadians were the last of the semifinals to miss the A-final and finished third in the B-final in ninth place.
