Melvin LaForme

Melvin "Mel" LaForme (born February 6, 1953 in Buffalo ) is a former Canadian rower who won the 1985 world championship in quadruples .

The 1.93 m tall Melvin LaForme from the Leander Boat Club in Hamilton took part with the Canadian eighth at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and finished eighth. At the 1977 World Championships , he finished eighth, and in 1978 he was twelfth with the four-man without a helmsman .

After switching from oars to skulls , he received the silver medal in singles and gold in quadruples at the Pan American Games in 1983 . In the 1985 season, LaForme was the Canadian double foursome batsman . Together with Doug Hamilton , Paul Douma and Robert Mills , he won the title at the 1985 World Rowing Championships in Hazewinkel. The four Canadians rowed world championship bronze in both 1986 and 1987 . At the Olympic Games in 1988 , the four Canadians were the last to miss the A-final in the semi-finals and finished in ninth place overall as third of the B-final.
