Uwe Heppner (born July 18, 1960 in Merseburg ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic . In 1980 he won the Olympic gold medal in the double fours .

Uwe Heppner trained under Lothar Trawiel at SC Chemie Halle . In 1977, Heppner won the Junior World Championships with a double scull and was able to defend this title the following year. Together with Martin Winter from SC Magdeburg, Heppner won in 1979 in a double scull at the GDR championship. In 1980 Winter and Heppner were in double fours and became Olympic champions at the Olympic Games in Moscow together with Frank Dundr and Carsten Bunk . In the 1981 season the Berliners Peter Kersten and Karl-Heinz Bußert joined Winter and Heppner and this new crew won the world championship in Munich. In 1982 Kersten was replaced by Uwe Mund and the world championship title was successfully defended.

In 1983 Heppner switched to the double scull and together with Thomas Lange won the GDR championship and the world championship title, in 1984 the two were absent from the season's highlight because of the Olympic boycott. In 1985 they defended their world championship title from 1983. In 1986 Heppner won the bronze medal together with Andreas Hajek , in 1987 he defended his third place with Uwe Sägling . It was not until the Olympic Games in Seoul that Heppner's long series of medal places was torn: with Uwe Mund, he finished fifth.

Uwe Heppner studied education and is a teacher in Berlin, where he also trains a rowing community at the Poelchau Oberschule. In 1980 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver in the GDR and in 1984 in gold.
