Sergei Anatolyevich Fedorovtsev

Sergei Anatoljewitsch Fedorowzew ( Russian Сергей Анатольевич Федоровцев ; born January 31, 1980 in Rostov-on-Don ) is a Russian rower . He won with Igor Kravtsov , Alexei Swirin and Nikolai Spinjow 2004 Olympic gold medal in quadruple sculls , the first and only gold medal for Russian rowers since the collapse of the Soviet Union .

Career

Fedorovzew won the silver medal in the quadruple sculls at the 1998 Junior World Championships . Four years later, Fedorowzew first took part in world championships in the adult sector: At the 2002 World Championships , he sat in the double foursome, which took fifth place, a placement that the foursome achieved in 2003 . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , the Russian four-man finished second behind the Poles, in the first semifinal the Poles won ahead of the German boat, in the second semifinals the Czechs won ahead of the Russians. In the final, the Russians won just ahead of the Czechs, while the Ukrainians came third just ahead of the Poles. At the 2005 World Championships , the Russians competed with the same line-up as in the Olympic gold medal and finished eighth. The following year came 6th place. In his second Olympic participation in Beijing in 2008 , Fedorovzew finished seventh with the double foursome.

At the European Championships in 2008 , Fedorovzew came in one and reached fourth place. He also started in the 2009 World Cup in the single, but switched back to the quadruple for the World Championships , which finished ninth. In 2010, Fedorovzew reached fifth place at the European Championships and sixth place at the World Championships with the Russian double foursome . After a fifth place at the 2011 World Championships , the Russian double foursome won the 2011 European Championships . In 2012, he placed eighth at the Olympic Games and fourth at the 2012 European Championships . While the Russian double scull did not reach the A final at the 2013 and 2014 World Championships , the boat took fourth place at the 2014 European Championships . In 2015, Fedorovtsev won the title at the European Championships in Poznan with the Russian double scull , and in 2016 the boat received the bronze medal.

During a training check by the Russian anti-doping agency on May 17, 2016, Fedorovzew tested positive for the banned drug trimetazidine . After the opening of the B sample on June 30, 2016, all of Fedorovtsev's results were canceled retrospectively until the day of the inspection, including the qualification of the Russian double foursome for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. At the qualifying regatta in Lucerne, the Russian selection around batsman Fedorovzew took first place in front of the Canadians who were also qualified on May 24th, 2016. For the Olympic Games, the third-placed team from New Zealand moved up in the qualifying regatta on June 30th.
