Wolfgang Güldenpfennig (born December 20, 1951 in Magdeburg ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic . In 1976 he won the Olympics in a double foursome.

Wolfgang Güldenpfennig from SC Magdeburg started his career in double sculls , but switched to single in 1972 . At the Olympic Games in 1972 he finished third behind Yuri Malyshev from the Soviet Union and the Argentine Alberto Demiddi . The following year he again won bronze in the single, this time at the European Championships.

In 1975 Güldenpfennig switched to the double quad. Together with Christof Kreuziger , Stefan Weisse and Wolfgang Hönig he won the World Championships in Nottingham. The following year, the double foursome appeared again with a different line-up: Frank Dundr and Martin Winter joined Güldenpfennig and Bußert, and the foursome won the title at the World Championships in Amsterdam. After two Olympic medals and two world championship titles, Güldenpfennig then ended his career.

In 1976 he was awarded the Silver Patriotic Order of Merit .

Wolfgang Güldenpfennig had completed his sports studies during his career at DHfK and later worked as a coach at SC Magdeburg.
