André Steiner (born February 8, 1970 in Gera ) is a former German rower who became Olympic champion in 1996.

Steiner won the double scull title at the Junior World Championships in 1987 . In 1989 he received the GDR championship title in four-four . In 1991 Steiner, who started for the Potsdam Rowing Society at the time, won bronze with Oliver Grüner in a double scull at the Rowing World Championships. But both missed the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

In Barcelona, the German double scull with André Willms , Stephan Volkert , Andreas Hajek and Michael Steinbach won the gold medal. André Steiner, meanwhile competing for the Berlin Rowing Club , replaced Steinbach in 1993. The quadruple won the 1993 World Championships in Račice (Czech Republic) and Steiner won his first major title. In 1994, Torsten Weishaupt came on board for Willms, and in the line-up of Weishaupt, Volkert, Hajek and Steiner, the four-man took a disappointing third place at the World Championships in Indianapolis (USA) behind the boats from Italy and the Ukraine. All three boats stayed below the world record time of 5:40 minutes for the first time. In 1995 the Italians defended their world title in front of the German four-man. Steiner and Volkert did not sit in double sculls, but rowed the silver medal in double sculls at the World Championships. For the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, the rowers of the 1993 world championship boat returned to the quad scull. Willms, Volkert, Hajek and Steiner won gold in front of the boats from the USA and Australia. While Wilms, Volkert and Hajek continued their careers, Steiner, who was a student of dentistry at the time, left the national team after winning the Olympics. He is now working as a doctor of dentistry in Berlin.
