Andreas Hajek

Andreas Hajek (born April 16, 1968 in Weißenfels ) is a multiple Olympic champion and world champion in rowing .

The Olympic champion in 1992, 1996 in quadruples and Olympic third in 2000 in quadruples ended his sporting career in 2004 and is now the owner of a Hajek Radsport bicycle shop in Halle (Saale) .

Hajek had already participated in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul as a substitute for the GDR. In 1985, when he was 17 years old , he won the gold medal at the Junior World Championships .

He trained a lot with Thomas Lange . He had his most successful sporting period with his rowing colleagues André Steiner , André Willms and Stephan Volkert , with whom he won medals at world championships and the Olympic Games for over ten years.

For his sporting successes he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President von Weizsäcker in 1992 .
