Tibor Pető

Tibor Pető (born December 27, 1980 in Vác ) is a former Hungarian rower who was twice world champion in double sculls together with Ákos Haller .

The 1.90 m tall Tibor Pető rowed for the first time in the 1999 World Rowing Cup with Haller in double sculls, together they rowed fifth place at the 1999 World Rowing Championships . In the Rowing World Cup 2000, the two Hungarians achieved third place three times. In the final of the 2000 Olympic Games , they again placed fifth.

In 2001 Haller and Pető dominated the World Cup with three regatta victories, and the Hungarians won the title at the 2001 World Rowing Championships in Lucerne. After two wins in the first two World Cup regattas in 2002, the Hungarians were defeated by the Czechs Milan Doleček and Ondřej Synek in Munich . At the 2002 World Rowing Championships in Seville, the Czechs only finished fifth, the Hungarians were able to repeat their title win from the previous year. At the World Cup opener in 2003 Haller and Pető took sixth place. That should remain the best result of the season, at the rowing world championships in 2003 the Hungarians came in seventh place as winners of the B final. In the 2004 Rowing World Cup, Haller and Pető reached the A final three times, finishing fifth once and sixth twice.

At the 2004 Olympic Games , Tibor Pető was not there. Ákos Haller drove to eleventh place with Gábor Benczik . In 2005 Tibor Pető competed with Gábor Benczik, and at the 2005 World Rowing Championships the two rowed to twelfth place. In the 2006 World Cup, Haller and Pető rowed together again in double sculls and took second place in the first regatta. After a fourth and a fifth place in the two other regattas, 13th place at the rowing world championships in 2006 did not meet expectations. After an even weaker 2007 season, Tibor Pető ended his international career.
