Ondřej Synek

Ondřej Synek (born October 13, 1982 in Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav ) is a Czech rower and the country's first world champion in single .

Synek won his first international medal together with Milan Doleček in a double scull at the 2003 World Championships . After fifth place at the 2004 Olympic Games, Synek moved to the one. After two third places at the World Championships in 2005 and 2006, the second place followed at the World Championships in 2007 behind Mahé Drysdale and the 2008 Olympic Games behind Olaf Tufte . Synek achieved his first big win in the skiff at the 2010 World Rowing Championships on Lake Karapiro in New Zealand in the home of Drysdale. At the 2011 World Championships and the 2012 Olympic Games, Drysdale won ahead of Synek. In 2013 and 2014, Synek won both the European title and the world title. At the European Championships in 2015 he was defeated by the Croatian Damir Martin , at the World Championships in 2015 he won his third title in a row. The following year he received the bronze medal at the European Championships and the Olympic Games. In 2017 Synek triumphed again at the European and World Championships in one.

He also works as a trainer for the ASC Dukla Praha cycling team . He started rowing in 1995 in the rowing club KV Kondor Brandys nad Labem. Synek is a goldsmith by profession.
